Description
Introduction. The original Schirmer company was established in Emmerich in Germany by Teodor Betting in 1827. Their first piano was made in Leipzig in 1855. Teodor and father Glandt teamed up with other famous piano builders of the time and later going their own way to make pipe organs, upright and grand pianos. The company passed through the generations and in the early 20th century won awards for their pianos. Post 1945 Schirmer continued but was eventually sold and modern R.Schirmer pianos are built by the excellent Pearl River company in China.
