Introduction. Bentley was founded in London by Douglas Grover in 1906, himself a third generation piano builder. In 1911 Grover moved his business to Woodchester in the Cotswolds taking his workers with him. The business was renamed as the Stroud Piano Company and during the next 20 years production and range of pianos greatly expanded. Post war, Bentley exported pianos all over the world and won awards for export. They also experimented with different designs and this diversification was helped by the purchase of other piano companies. During the 1980s, they were known as a maker of refined, good quality and good value pianos. Sadly, the 1990s were less kind to Bentley and sadly went into liquidation in 2003.
