Why are pianos so expensive?
Musical instruments are expensive. And pianos are among the most expensive of all!
Pianos cost a lot of money for a number of reasons. Pianos are the most complicated instruments having 1,000s of moving parts which all have to work perfectly together.
The construction, manufacturing and distribution process is complicated and labour intensive, all adding to the cost.
An excellent quality string instrument improves with age as the wood matures, the same cannot be said for pianos, brass or woodwind instruments.
Modern manufacturing techniques and many refinements in design means that modern pianos, brass and woodwind instruments are far superior than their predecessors. Even so, moving parts simply wear out over time.
You and your child deserve the ‘best’
It has been said that the best instruments should go to children, beginners and those first learning their craft. A professional musician can make anything sound good, but for the beginner to be able to make the same sorts of sounds isn’t as easy. It takes time!
A poorly functioning instrument only stores up problems and difficult to break bad habits as the pupil tries to accommodate the quirks of that instrument.
Learning on an instrument with excellent sound will help develop the ear. The student has a better chance of developing a good technique on a piano with a good action.
The problem of course, is that buying a good quality piano outright is a big investment and a big risk when you can’t be sure if you or your child is going to continue.
What if I or my child doesn’t take to the piano?
It’s difficult for parents. As a parent you want to do the best for your child and that means getting the best piano possible.
The problem lies in not knowing whether your son or daughter will take to the piano.
As we saw above, even cheap pianos aren’t cheap.
Could renting be the answer?
Renting an instrument can provide a cost effective way of getting decent instruments to aspiring young pianists. It is a great way of getting started and see if your son or daughter takes to their chosen instrument.
This will get your son or daughter started until they get advanced enough to have their very own piano – without the financial risk.
At Pianolobby we offer quality pianos for rent. We operate a rent to buy scheme. Our main policy has always been to offer more piano for less money and this is an extension of this idea.
We have tried to keep it as simple and as generous as we can.
How it works
Take out a simple 6 month contract from £35 per calendar month and a one-off delivery of £130. The piano will be tuned and comes with an adjustable stool.
At the end of 6 months you’ll have 3 choices:
- Continue renting.
- Return the piano.
- Buy the piano. If you decide to buy the piano, every penny spent, rent and delivery comes off the ticket price and you simply pay the balance.
Note that if you wish to buy another piano from us, that rental money comes off the price of the new piano.
If you would like more information or want to try out our pianos please call us on 020 3645 3930 or fill out the short form below and we’ll get back to you.
